What a correction is for

This site tracks a public figure’s career across more than two decades, and the record changes as new facts come to light. If a date, a credit, a fact about a book or show, or anything on the private life page reads as wrong or out of date, that is exactly what this address is for.

Corrections are welcomed on any page this site covers: the biography, the TV and filmography record, the book list, the DriveTribe and Smallest Cog venture pages, the newer pages on his car collection, Top Gear specials, Brainiac years, awards, charity work and CarFest appearances, and the ongoing news log. Each report is checked against a public source before anything is changed — the same standard the news log states for itself.

What happens after you write in

A correction email is read by an editor, not routed through a form or a ticketing system. The first step is checking the claim against a public source — a broadcaster listing, press coverage, or a public statement from Richard Hammond himself — rather than taking either the original page or the correction on trust. If the source supports the change, the page is edited and the record moves on; if it does not, the editor will usually reply to explain why, rather than simply leaving the message unanswered.

What to include in a correction

A useful correction names the page, the specific line or fact in question, and — where possible — a public source that supports the change. That last part is not a strict requirement, but it speeds things up considerably: a pointer to a date, a listing or a report is easier to check than a general “this looks wrong.”
