The Hamster’s Cage is a simple, independently run reference site about Richard Hammond’s career. This page explains, in plain terms, what happens — and what does not happen — with any information connected to a visit here.

No cookies, no tracking, no analytics

This site does not set cookies, does not run analytics software, does not use advertising networks, and does not include any third-party tracking scripts. There is no visitor profile built up over time, no cross-site tracking pixel, and nothing that follows a reader from this site to another one. A visit here leaves nothing behind on this end beyond the standard, temporary web-server logging that any website receives simply by being reached over the internet — the same kind of record any server keeps automatically, briefly, and without being tied to a name or an account.

There is no login system, no user account, no comment system, and no newsletter sign-up anywhere on the site. None of the pages ask a visitor to hand over any personal information in order to read them. Nothing about how a page looks or behaves changes based on who is viewing it, because the site has no way of telling one visitor from another.

If you email the contact address

The contact page lists a plain email address for corrections, questions, or removal requests. Messages sent there are handled the same way any ordinary email would be: read by whoever runs the site, used only to answer whatever was asked, and not added to a mailing list, shared with a third party, or used for any kind of marketing. An email is kept only for as long as it takes to deal with the message, then it is not retained beyond that.

Because there is no contact form on the site — only a mailto link that opens a visitor’s own email client — nothing typed into a message is stored on this site’s server at any point. The message goes straight from the visitor’s own email provider to the site’s inbox, the same as any other email.

Links to other sites

Several pages link out to newspapers, broadcasters and other public sources to support the facts written on this site — the biography and TV pages in particular reference outside coverage directly. Those outside sites are run by other organisations, and each has its own separate privacy practices and its own way of handling visitors. Once a link is followed away from this site, this policy no longer applies; whatever happens next is between the visitor and that other website.

Hosting and basic server logs

Like any website, this one runs on standard web hosting, which keeps a brief technical log of requests — the kind of information a server needs simply to deliver a page, such as a request time and an IP address. This is routine infrastructure record-keeping, not a feature of the site itself, is not reviewed for any purpose beyond keeping the site running, and is not linked to any personal profile.

Children’s privacy

This site is a general-interest reference about a television presenter’s career and is not aimed at children. It does not knowingly collect information from anyone, of any age, since it does not collect information from visitors at all.

Changes to this policy

If anything about how this site works were ever to change in a way that affects privacy — for example, if a genuinely useful feature were added later that did involve collecting some information — this page would be updated first, in plain language, before that change went live. There is nothing planned along those lines at present; this page simply reflects how the site works today.
